Ipamorelin vs Sermorelin HGH, what’s the difference?

It could be that you’re wanting to decrease fat mass, build muscle mass or simply recover faster after workouts. Whatever the reason may be, of which there are hundreds, many of us seek the help of GH release supplements.

We’ll see the topic of growth hormones and anabolic steroids come up again and again with so many competing bodybuilders seeking out the next best thing. They’re fighting their way to the top and looking for the perfect growth hormone releasing peptides that’ll have them fat burning, slowing the aging process, and giving them that all-important increased muscle mass.

As we age, our body’s natural levels of growth hormone start to diminish. From the age of around 30, it is then more common to experience a loss of lean muscle mass, an increase in body fat, and decreased energy. It is these concerns alone, let alone any body goals, that have men (and women too) turning to synthetics and supplements for help.

In this case, it’s all about the war between Sermorelin vs Ipamorelin and their ability to increase growth hormone levels. However, before we dive into ipamorelin vs sermorelin and which is better, we need to know more about human growth hormone itself.

Growth hormone: what is it?

Human growth hormone (HGH) is produced naturally in the body by the pituitary gland. HGH works to boost growth in children and adolescents whilst helping to regulate body composition, body fluids, bone and muscle growth, sugar and fat metabolism and even potentially heart function. GH secretion also promotes long bone growth in children and teenagers. In the lower body, these are the tibia, fibula, femur, metatarsals, and phalanges; and in the upper body, humerus, radius, ulna, metacarpals, and phalanges.

Whilst growth hormone occurs naturally in our bodies, it is possible to have a growth hormone deficiency. Although, growth hormone deficiency isn’t likely to be the cause of what is keeping you back from loading on muscle mass. Obviously, that doesn’t stop many of us from seeking synthetic growth hormones to influence muscle growth, body weight, and so on.

Sermorelin vs Ipamorelin

For us to understand the two peptides Sermorelin vs Ipamorelin and which one is better, we first need to grasp what both Sermorelin and Ipamorelin individually.

Well, then, let’s dive in!

What is Ipamorelin?

Ipamorelin is a popular peptide that is part of the growth factor family. It works by stimulating growth hormone release with this type of peptide called Growth Hormone Secretagogues (GHS).

You’re confused now, aren’t you? Once you get your head around the terms, it’s completely fine. A ‘secretagogue’ is simply a substance that causes another substance to be secreted – in this case, growth hormone levels.

As we now understand the impact of growth hormone levels, it’s easy to see why Ipamoreline has become popular with the bodybuilding world for muscle growth and achieving a lean body weight.

Ipamorelin acts as a GHS by triggering the receptors for the hunger hormone (ghrelin), just like MK-677 Ibutamoren. Usually, ghrelin receptors send a signal towards the pituitary gland, stimulating growth hormone output.

What was Ipamorelin created for?

Ipamorelin was originally created in order to speed up the recovery of gastrointestinal function in patients post bowel surgery. However, it was discontinued for use in this area because it was deemed ineffective.

Ipamorelin: How to use

Ipamorelin is a white powder that needs to be reconstituted with bacteriostatic water before being used. As is the case with some other peptides, it has to be injected subcutaneously and injection sites must be rotated to prevent lipodystrophy.

With clinical trials failing to show the effectiveness of Ipamorelin, its official production has been discontinued. However, that doesn’t stop many from seeking pituitary hormones online illegally.

One major concern is that currently, the peptide Ipamorelin is not FDA-approved for human use and it is not a subject of any regulation.

The benefits of Ipamorelin

The main benefit of Ipamoreline is its power to increase growth hormone release, which is said to occur about 40 minutes after injecting.

By stimulating the pituitary gland, Ipamoreline can also have the following benefits:

  • Reduced body fat
  • Revamped energy levels
  • Increased collagen production and skin thickness
  • Increased lean body mass
  • Improve sleep quality
  • Increases bone density
  • It can support the repair of cartilage and nerves
  • Increased IGF-1 (insulin growth factor hormone)
  • Less appetite stimulation than GHRP-6
  • Improved sexual performance/sex drive
  • It’s said to have an anti-aging treatment to slow the aging process

However, as clinical trials have discovered it to be pretty useless, the evidence from animal studies could suggest that only some of the above are actually true. So much so, that some research has shown it could maybe lead to weight gain instead of fat loss.

Side effects of Ipamorelin

Like any type of unapproved drug and, Ipamorelin has its own set of potential side effects, including:

  • Headaches / feeling lightheaded
  • Water retention
  • Fatigue
  • Decreased insulin sensitivity
  • Carpal tunnel symptoms
  • Numbness in extremities
  • As mentioned above not weight loss but weight gain

As we’ve already stated, Ipamorelin can deliver a spike in growth hormone in a mere 40 minutes after injection. However, this spike is then followed by a dramatic decline, growth hormone levels returning back to their norm after around 3 hours.

This is due to the half life of Ipamorelin, which is less than 2 hours when injected subcutaneously and even shorter when taken intravenously. For something that is said to have a big effect and is ready to stimulate growth hormone release, it doesn’t last long.

Experiments with rats revealed that 4x daily administration of Ipamorelin can cause an increase in mean HGH levels, IGF-1 levels, and weight gain. So if’s it weight loss and lean body mass you’re after, this isn’t helpful.

Unfortunately, minus the outcome of Ipamorelin treatment on postoperative ileus, further effects of Ipamorelin haven’t been studied in humans. This leaves plenty of room for way more than one major concern, and with such a short half life, the rapid decline of HGH levels quite frankly doesn’t make this peptide worth it.

Sermorelin: what is it?

First developed in the 1970s, Sermorelin is another one of those releasing peptides. It contains 29 amino acids and its primary function is to stimulate growth hormone HGH levels.

Sermorelin is often used alone and combined with GHRP-2 and GHRP-6 to create an increase and regulate growth hormone release.

Yet again, Sermorelin’s power to stimulate the growth hormone GH means that it is typically used in children with an idiopathic growth hormone deficiency. This is to help with GH release to help with long bone growth. It’s rarely used for adults lacking growth hormone, but under the discretion of a treating physician, it can be.

The benefits of Sermorelin

Similar to Ipamorelin, Sermorelin can encourage the pituitary gland to increase growth hormone production. Therefore, it can deliver the following benefits associated with a boost of growth hormone:

  • A boost in lean muscle mass
  • A positive impact on the immune system
  • Increase of beneficial natural sleep patterns (HGH releases in excess during deep sleep)

Sermorelin: The Side effects

Studies have shown these possible side effects of taking Sermorelin:

  • Headaches
  • Dizziness
  • Vomiting
  • Itching
  • Hives
  • Flushing
  • Tiredness
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Changes in the perception of taste
  • Issues sitting still

Sermorelin vs Ipamorelin which is better?

So, when it comes down to it, Sermorelin vs Ipamorelin, which should you choose?

Even though both Sermorelin and Ipamorelin stimulate growth hormone production, Sermorelin is a little different in the way that it works.

Sermorelin works by naturally increasing growth hormone levels, whilst Ipamorelin is synthetic. Due to this, Sermorelin doesn’t carry the same fears of affecting natural growth hormone production.

For a true comparison in the battle of the two peptides, Ipamorelin vs Sermorelin, let’s break it down some more:

Ipamorelin

  1. Half life of less than 2 hours
  2. Can create a spike in growth hormone output within 40 minutes after injection
  3. Had a rapid decline and return to growth hormone baseline levels after 3 hours
  4. Increases appetite and can lead to fat gain (when it’s fat burning you want, not good)

Sermorelin

  1. Half life of 10 to 20 minutes
  2. Increases growth hormone levels for 2 hours after injection
  3. FDA approved for growth hormone deficiency
  4. Nausea, headaches, and tiredness are all potential side effects

Well, Sermorelin has a greater amount of clinical studies, with FDA approval for the use of treating growth hormone deficiency. According to human trials, Sermorelin leads to an increase in HGH for 2 hours after administration.

However, Sermorelin is subject to a negative feedback mechanism by somatostatin, making it unable to push growth hormone levels above physiological norms and therefore stunting its growth hormone releasing factor.

Basically, Ipamorelin requires way more research. Its adverse effects mean it has been deemed ineffective by many, whether in the treatment HGH deficiency or its use by bodybuilders seeking to lower body fat, improve body composition and improve muscle growth.

What about CJC 1295?

CJC 1295 and Ipamorelin are a common combination of two popular peptides.

While Ipamorelin mimics ghrelin and binds to the ghrelin receptor in the pituitary gland, the combination of CJC 1295 and Ipamorelin is able to increase human growth hormone by acting in two different families of receptors.

What is CJC 1295?

A synthetically created peptide, CJC 1295 was originally developed to treat diseases. However, much like anabolic steroids and other anterior pituitary gland hormones, they can have performance-enhancing effects that have made it popular amongst athletes and bodybuilders.

CJC 1295, a peptide, works by increasing protein synthesis and insulin like growth factor levels. This encourages muscle tissue growth, therefore increasing muscle mass and ability.

Sermorelin vs ipamorelin and cjc 1295

Ipamorelin and CJC 1295 are often used together in order to stimulate muscle development. This popular combo works by increasing the blood level of hormones associated with growth. It is said to improve recovery time and sleep quality, as well as increase muscle growth and strength while decreasing body fat.
